Throughout the week, you'll create your own collection of handmade papers and learn how to transform them into rich, layered mixed media artworks that are uniquely yours.

Take part in daily studio classes and demos with Froyle, whose warm and encouraging teaching style will help you build confidence in your skills regardless of where you are in your creative journey. The retreat will emphasize curiosity, play, and experimentation over pressure or perfection, and all levels are welcome.

Sessions are structured to build naturally on one another, from your first gel prints to finished artworks, allowing you to experience real progress while still enjoying a relaxed and inspiring atmosphere. The goal is for you to feel supported, capable, and encouraged to experiment. Rather than simply following a technique, you'll learn to make creative decisions based on what your artwork needs, respond to unexpected results, and begin asking: What could this become?

Complement your art sessions with adventures into the heart of Dordogne, visiting picturesque villages for inspiration. Explore the historic town of Beynac-et-Cazenac, with its imposing castle, Château de Beynac, perched on top of a hill. Visit Issigeac and wander around its narrow cobbled streets. If you wish, immerse yourself in French culture on an optional morning stroll through the vibrant market of Eymet, a quaint little nearby town, or stay back in the studio to continue experimenting with gel printing.

**Some of the topics covered during your classes with Froyle include:**

- Exploring gel printing with color, blending, shape, pattern, texture, stencils, and layering
- Creating your own collection of handmade collage papers
- Understanding how different papers and paints behave on the gel plate
- How to create successful image transfers
- Developing image transfers further with color, pattern, texture, and additional printed layers
- Combining gel prints, image transfers, and collage fragments into layered mixed media artworks
- Adding depth and interest with translucent papers, typography, magazine fragments, and unexpected materials
- Exploring composition through color, contrast, scale, focal points, repetition, and layering
- How to edit and resolve your artwork by knowing when to add a layer, simplify, change direction, or stop
- …and many more!

Your home for the week will be an elegant historic estate from the Napoleonic era, set amidst vibrant gardens, secluded woodlands, a natural pond, and a heated pool. Delight in Dordogne's culinary heritage with daily chef-prepared meals, and savor the local wines through a wine and cheese tasting experience. Share meals, laughter, and creative conversations with a group of like-minded artists, all in a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable learning and growing together.

### Day 1: Arrival
Catch the 3:30 PM shuttle from Bergerac train station to your retreat venue, a stunning 25-acre historic estate in the heart of Dordogne. Settle into your elegant room and get introduced to Froyle Davies, along with the rest of your art group.

Together with your art group, start your experience with a guided tour of the estate, showcasing its cozy shared spaces, the vast gardens, sunlit terraces, a heated swimming pool, serene woodlands, and a tranquil pond. Lastly, enjoy a warm welcome dinner featuring exquisite French cuisine and fragrant local wine, setting the tone for the inspiring week ahead.

### Day 2: Art at the venue
Gather over breakfast and coffee, then head to the studio for the very first class of the retreat.

Begin the session with an introduction to gel plate printing and discover the exciting possibilities of color, shape, pattern, and texture. Experiment with blending colors, using stencils, and creating interesting textures with different materials. Explore printing on a variety of papers, building layers and developing your prints further as you begin creating a unique collection of handmade papers to use throughout the week, all with Froyle's guidance and encouragement.

Break for a nutritious lunch and return to the studio for another creative session where Froyle will share the secrets of successful image transfers. Explore what makes images suitable for transferring, learn how to apply paint, find out how timing affects your work, and discover the little touches and adjustments that make all the difference!

As the afternoon winds down, take some time to recharge before dinner. Join your fellow artists for a delicious three-course dinner prepared by the private chef and paired with local wine.

### Day 3: Trip to Issigeac
After a filling breakfast, grab your camera and head out with Froyle for a morning in the village of Issigeac, a short drive from the venue.

The 15th-century medieval town stands out from other Bastide towns in the area due to its cylindrical structure, with narrow, winding streets that curl like a snail in its shell. Overflowing with history and historic architecture, Issigeac flaunts spectacular half-timbered houses, like the 'Maison des Têtes' on the corner of the Grand Rue, which has some very ancient carved heads on its upper level, and the quirky 'Mushroom House.' Spend the morning wandering the town, capturing medieval scenes as you snap reference photos and find patterns and shapes that inspire you.

Return to the venue for a relaxed lunch, then continue the afternoon with a session that will deepen your understanding of image transfers. Explore adding color, pattern, texture, and additional printed layers to your image transfers, discovering how an image can become the starting point for a new artwork rather than simply a finished print.

Take some time to rest and unwind in the late afternoon. Indulge in a delightful three-course dinner prepared by the in-house chef and paired with a glass of fragrant wine.

### Day 4: Art at the venue & wine and cheese tasting
Fuel up with a hearty breakfast before gathering your materials for an inspiring day of creative exploration.

Spend the morning exploring gel plate collage. Take collage onto the gel plate and combine handmade papers, colors, patterns, image transfers, and collage fragments. Experiment with composition as you build layers directly on the plate, bringing everything together in one final pull to create a unique mixed media artwork.

Enjoy a delicious lunch before returning to the studio for a session all about gel printing and collage. Under Froyle's guidance, begin to combine gel prints with image transfers, handmade papers, and collage fragments to create complex and layered, mixed-media artworks. Continue to experiment as you explore the different shapes your artworks can take.

As the class comes to an end, take some time to unwind before dinner. Come together in the evening for an exquisite wine and cheese tasting experience guided by a local sommelier, then enjoy a delicious chef-prepared dinner accompanied by a glass of local wine. Soak in the lovely atmosphere of the evening, sharing stories and impressions from the day.

### Day 5: Trip to Beynac-et-Cazenac
Start the day with a relaxed breakfast, then grab your camera and set out on a full-day trip to Beynac-et-Cazenac, one of the most striking towns in the Dordogne region of France.

This medieval town rises up the hillside above the river, its steep streets and stone houses gathering beneath the Château de Beynac. The breathtaking views of the Dordogne River and the well-preserved medieval architecture inspire creativity at every turn. Wander the narrow, cobbled alleys, marvel at flower-decked houses, and snap photos of the unique scenes of the town. Beynac's vistas often graced the silver screen in films like "Revenge of the Musketeers" or Luc Besson's "Jeanne d'Arc".

Navigate the streets of Beynac-et-Cazenac, camera in hand, and capture the atmosphere of this medieval town. Focus on the intricate stonework of nearby buildings or relax by the Dordogne River as you take in the beauty of your surroundings.

Pause for lunch on your own in the village and take in the setting before the afternoon. Then, visit the imposing Château de Beynac, a medieval fortress perched high above the river. Explore freely, take reference photos, or just soak in the atmosphere.

Return to the venue in the late afternoon and take some time to recharge before dinner. Savor a wholesome chef-prepared dinner and a glass of fragrant wine, sharing stories and impressions from today's trip with the group.

### Day 6: Trip to Eymet market or art at the venue
Wake up to a fresh breakfast and a warm cup of coffee.

This morning, the choice is yours to make: take a trip to the nearby town of Eymet, located only a 15-minute walk away from the venue, or stay back at the venue and continue your exploration of gel printing. Home to a weekly vibrant French market, the village of Eymet is bustling with stalls of flowers, vegetables, herbs, and homemade goods. Whether you like to seek inspiration at the market or to continue your work in the studio, take a moment to reflect on your progress and find inspiration in your surroundings!

Enjoy a midday meal and rest, then settle into the studio for the afternoon, where Froyle will guide you in finding and following your own creative direction. Make use of everything you've learned so far, combining techniques and materials to develop unique mixed media artworks that reflect your own creative vision.

Later in the afternoon, enjoy some spare time to relax. Gather with your fellow creatives for a mouthwatering three-course dinner prepared by the private chef and paired with a glass of French wine.

### Day 7: Art at the venue
Wake to the soft light of morning and enjoy a peaceful breakfast before stepping into the studio, where Froyle will be ready to guide you through your final full day at the retreat.

This morning session will focus on taking a look at everything you've worked on and adding the finishing touches to your artworks. Decide what needs to be simplified, what details need to be added to bring everything together, what is already finished, and what piece would benefit from another layer.

After lunch, continue to finish up your pieces and prepare for the afternoon's main event, an exciting mini-exhibition! Walk around, take in the art created by everyone, and celebrate the discoveries made along the way. Discuss ideas you can carry forward, see how different choices transform art and bask in the support of your artistic peers. Reflect on the progress you've made and the confidence you've gained during your artistic journey in France.

The week closes with a farewell dinner, a last evening together to raise a glass to an adventure full of memories, new friendships, and unforgettable moments!

### Day 8: Departure
Enjoy one last breakfast with Froyle and your fellow artists before it's time to part ways. At 9:00 AM, you'll head to Gare Bergerac train station, arriving around 9:45 AM.

As you make your way back home, take with you a heart brimming with inspiration and lasting memories.
