The palace was built in the mid-eighteenth century, on the grounds of an old Muslim-era fortress, the Alc\u00e1zar de Los Austrias. The Royal Palace is open to the public, and visitors can get a glimpse of the opulent lifestyle of royals throughout the ages. It is the largest functioning royal palace in Europe, featuring 3,418 rooms filled with centuries&#8217; worth of tapestries, paintings, furniture, and armor. must-see while visiting the city. This enormous rectangular esplanade is lined with impressive pillars and arches and features a huge bronze equestrian statue of King Philip III of Spain, who initiated the project of building this square in the 17th century. Plaza Mayor&#8217;s cobblestones have seen centuries of history \u2014 everything from bullfights, beheadings, and fires to coronations, fiestas, and processions.
