Take in the stunning views of Morocco’s southern Atlantic coast alongside the Atlas Mountains while experiencing a one-of-a-kind painting retreat with expert instruction.We will study light and form through landscape and still life techniques. Landscape is an excellent way to observe and absorb the beautiful setting. Still life offers an opportunity for a more technical execution as well as personalization. Sari's hope is that one practice feeds the other.Sari will share her techniques for painting light, shadow, and color and her approach to plein air painting. From lessons on quick studies to more detailed work, artists will gain significant insight into Sari’s process and learn how to translate that knowledge into their own work.In addition, students will learn creative best practices in order to discover and enhance their style and approach to their artwork. Beyond technique, she will also answer questions and give advice to those looking to find their style and really take their passion to the next level. ### Day 1: Arrival During the week-long plein air painting retreat with fine artist Sari Shryack, you will enjoy an entire estate rented exclusively for you and your fellow retreat participants. You will stay at Atlas Kasbah, a premium eco-lodge located close to Agadir, near the argan forests of the UNESCO Argan Biosphere Reserve.Catch the 1:00 PM transfer from Marrakesh Menara Airport (RAK) to Atlas Kasbah and meet Sari and your fellow art retreat participants. Take a tour of the award-winning eco-friendly property with its subtle blend of Berber and European influences, traditional furniture, sculpted wooden doors, red-ocher walls, and cactus silk shimmering in the Southern Moroccan sunlight.Enjoy a special welcome dinner with Sari and the group. After introductions are made, Sari will show you her portfolio and discuss what you can expect to learn during the painting retreat. ### Day 2: Painting in the gardens We’ll begin the day with a discussion of our week’s plans and goals over breakfast.Afterward, we’ll jump right into painting. We'll set up our paints and get familiar with our supplies. Sari will share her tips for selecting a composition and establishing a creative roadmap for a painting through a demonstration.In the evening, we’ll enjoy an aperitivo hour and a three-course dinner served with wine. ### Day 3: Taroudant sketchbook trip After breakfast, grab your sketchbook and some light art supplies and embark on an exciting full-day trip to Taroudant.Explore the imperial architecture of Taroudant while sketching compositions of local scenery. Gather items for still life painting later at the venue. Break for a picnic lunch, then walk into the Medina (old town) through one of the striking five city doors, visit the two souks to witness artisans working with leather, copper and silver, and stop for some more loose sketches.Get transferred back to the retreat venue in time for dinner. End the day with drinks and a delicious dinner served with wine. ### Day 4: Painting in the gardens We will spend the entire day painting in the stunning gardens of the Kasbah or in the surrounding landscape. Artists will have the option to create a landscape work from Atlas Kasbah or set up their still life scenes.In the afternoon, you can enjoy a traditional hammam treatment — a relaxing steam bath, typical of the Islamic world. Allow yourself to relax and enjoy our retreat venue's SPA area. ### Day 5: Taghazout sketchbook trip After a delicious breakfast at the retreat venue, we’ll cross the Anti-Atlas Mountains passing by argan groves, and travel up the Atlantic coast to the fishing village of Taghazout. You will have the excellent opportunity to apply lessons learned so far to use as we find inspiration from the golden beaches of Taghazout. You will sketch on the beach or on one of the beach bars lining the coast, wander around the white-washed village, photograph the landscape for a deeper exploration on canvas, then break for a picnic lunch, relax on the beach, and go for a swim.Get transferred back to Atlas Kasbah in time for a delicious chef-made dinner served with wine. ### Day 6: Painting in the gardens Sari will demonstrate a landscape painting in the morning, then you will continue your own work—landscape or still life, in the afternoon.
