Sample day 1

You will be picked up from the Avignon TGV station (if that is your preferred mode of arrival) at 03:00 p.m. and will take a short 40-minute trip until reaching your accommodation. After settling in, join chef Eric Fraudeau and his team for a cocktail at 06:30 p.m. Dinner will be served after drinks.

After breakfast you will head with your hosts to one of the many charming wineries in the area where you will spend half the day exploring what makes wine from the Occitanie region so special. Chef Eric will put together a light picnic lunch before you head back to Uzès where you will enjoy a free evening to explore the town at your own pace.

After breakfast, you will be picked up from the guesthouse and taken to chef Eric's school where you will cook lunch and learn the basics of French cuisine. After lunch, visit a cheese producer and learn about the processes that are involved in making good quality cheese. In the evening you will be accompanied by a sommelier who will teach you the perfect way to pair food with wines through a one-of-a-kind demonstration.

You will explore the Nîmes market where chef Eric will teach you how professional chefs pick the best produce used in restaurants all over France. You will also choose ingredients that will be used to prepare a three-course lunch at the school. After lunch, you will do some prep work for the next classes scheduled for the week. The evening will be free, so you will be able to explore and discover hidden gems in the area.

You will be taken to the producers' market where you will shop with the locals and get a true feeling of what living in a town in the South of France means. After buying some fresh ingredients, go back to school and prepare a four-course lunch with chef Eric. In the evening you will visit the Pont du Gard and serve an aperitif and a light dinner at this stunning World Heritage site.

After breakfast, get your hands "dirty" and head to the school for a bread baking class. Find out why the baguette is a French staple, learn to bake your own bread and, after class, visit a surprise location and enjoy a packed picnic lunch. You can spend the evening as you wish, maybe explore the night markets where the smell of food will serve as inspiration for any future meals you might be tempted to make.

After you have breakfast, go to the school where you will cook lunch and ask any remaining questions you might have about French gastronomy. The evening will be spent with the whole class and your hosts at a local restaurant.

Your classes will take place in and around the city of Uzès (in Arpaillargues), located in southern France, at the border of the Provence region.

The city of Uzès is one hour away from Montpellier Airport, 1.5 hours away from Marseille Airport, and just 40 minutes away from Avignon TGV station.

Transfers to and from the Avignon TGV train station are included in the package as follows: on the date of arrival at 03:00 p.m. and departure on your last day at 10:00 a.m. Please get in touch in advance to make all needed arrangements.

Tutor

Eric Fraudeau is a professional chef with over 30 years of experience in the food and hospitality business. Having worked in countries such as France, USA, Canada, and Mexico, Chef Eric Fraudeau opened his first French cooking school in 2007 in Paris in order to share his passion with foodies from around the world. He has since expanded the program with the school in Uzès. Eric has a very immersive and hands-on approach to teaching, so you can be sure to expect a fun and professional class.

Is this experience available to all levels?

It is. The cooking vacation in Uzès is available to all levels of knowledge and ability. No prior cooking experience is required.


How many people are expected to take part in the group cooking sessions and activities?

There is a maximum of six participants for each session.


When is the cooking vacation in Uzès available?

What language is used during the cooking classes and other activities?

The whole program is available in English.

Check-in is at 04:00 p.m. on the day of arrival and check-out is at 10:00 a.m. on the departure day.


What's the weather like in Uzès?

The weather in this region is hot during summers and mild during winters. April has average highs of 19°C / 66°F and lows of 8°C / 46°F. October has warmer average temperatures with a high of 21°C / 70°F during the day that drops to around 11°C / 52°F at night.


What should I bring?

Chef Eric and his lovely wife, Yetunde, have created a week of cooking, going to local markets to buy what is fresh that day, excursions to local sites, and a lovely picnic with food we had prepared.
