### Portrait and Figure Painting Retreat
Experience an insightful art retreat with acclaimed artist Nick Alm on the sunny island of Zakynthos. Tailored to artists with prior experience in acrylics, oils, or watercolor, this retreat is designed to develop your portraiture, figure painting, and plein air skills. Learn from a classical painting master and delve into a variety of techniques with daily demonstrations, personalized feedback, and unforgettable art trips. You'll paint from a live model each day, either within a controlled studio environment or among the stunning landscapes of Greece. The classes are designed to give you an insight into Nick's method and to take your portraiture and figure painting skills to the next level. You'll follow along with Nick's demonstrations each day, practice alongside your fellow artists, and benefit from your instructor's expert, tailored advice. Nick will be painting in oil, but you're welcome to bring any medium you wish.Throughout the retreat, you'll have plenty of classes at the venue, in addition to three art trips. Draw inspiration from the Venetian and Byzantine influences of Zante (the island’s capital city) or from the timeless Shipwreck Beach, reached by a scenic boat ride to where the rusting hull of a wrecked vessel has remained frozen in time. Stop by an olive oil farm that has won numerous awards since its founding in 1890. As you stroll through the olive groves, you'll see trees that are more than 150 years old; as you learn about the history of the island through a guided tasting of their famous oils, you'll also get to taste some of their other, equally delicious products. The art retreat is open to artists of all experience levels, offering something for everyone, though you’ll benefit most if you already have some familiarity with Nick Alm's work and style of teaching. Nick will help you refine a wide array of techniques, such as:PortraitureFigure paintingLight and shadow playPainting alla primaThe specifics of plein air paintingCohesive compositionColor mixing and pickingControl of your chosen mediumTransposing the spirit of a scene into a paintingExtracting the essentials from visual clutter...and many more. The venue, a stunning Greek villa perched on a cliff with sweeping views of the sea, will be your creative haven. ### Day 5: Boat trip to Navagio Beach
After a refreshing breakfast and a warm cup of coffee, prepare for the first trip of the retreat and welcome the spirit of adventure as you head towards the sea. Spend the morning exploring the Zakynthian coast aboard a boat taxi. Depart from Porto Vromi and ride across crystalline waters, passing silent caves and jagged cliffs that echo with ancient stillness. Let the rhythm of the boat, the salt in the air, and the colors of the sea awaken your senses. You'll soon arrive at Navagio Beach, also known as Shipwreck Beach, where the bones of an old shipwreck rest in the sand, rusted and storied. Take reference photos from your boat as you hear more about the vessel's past as a (rumored) smuggling ship for the Italian mafia back in the 1980s.After returning by boat to Porto Vromi, enjoy a nourishing lunch at the venue and some time to rest and reset before returning to the studio.Return to the venue just in time for lunch, then gear up for another session in the studio alongside Nick. ## Reviews

Reviews of previous UpTrek art retreats with Nick Alm:"The teaching was as great as last time. We had a group of great people without exemption and a wonderful time.""Best overall experience. Better than I could possibly have imagined. I would love to repeat that.""I thought it was great. Uptrek (Andra) really planned everything well. It took a little bit to get into Nick’s mindset in painting, he seems a very quiet zen master, but fascinating to watch. He gave us in-depth individual critiques, sometimes well past the times sessions were supposed to end. In short: I got what I came for and so much more.""Just a wonderful "break from reality"! Nick was incredibly kind and responsive, and so talented. The people were a friendly group eager to learn and engage, and the hosts couldn't have been better. Would highly recommend and wish I was back!""10/10 would go again. If Uptrek offers more retreats taught by highly skilled realist painters, I will be very interested.""The demonstration and personalized feedback were very helpful. It’s really awesome to see how some of the beautiful works come to be in a step-by-step way while attempting our own with the same model. I find that style of learning to be most beneficial."Guest reviews from past retreats at this venue:"Well it was lovely in all aspects! David’s gourmet food was a dining extravaganza! The quaint villa & the nearby town were enormously refreshing. The love & care put into the service was above reproach! I would highly suggest this venue to anyone interested in seeing Greece!""The hosts really made my trip special by their loving and kind hearts! They made me feel like family as well as all their staff! The estate was breathtaking and I hope to visit again soon! It was magical and I truly appreciate everything done for us while there, their openness and especially the hugs! I miss them and the warm generosity and kindness. It's true that I felt more at ease, comfortable and hugged being a stranger welcomed there, than I actually do coming back home...!!! That is saying a lot about the character and hearts of Karen and David! It reflected in everything and everyone whom works there. That is why it works so well, as David says, that's Living, doing what you love! Thank you to all for the fond memories ;)""The venue is beautiful. Waking up to see the sunrise was a perfect way to start the day. Food was authentic and delicious. We had some hot days in the studio, but apparently, this was a heat wave, but otherwise, it worked well. Staff was genuinely sweet and accommodating, and hard working. It was interesting to experience the Greek way of life. Our hosts cared about every detail. I enjoyed it so much that I will return next year and bring my daughter. Uptrek, thank you for finding this gem!""Beautiful location! There was a lovely mix of art classes at the retreat, and excursions to paint or take reference photos! Our hosts were warm, kind, and very talented in cooking and treating guest! Thank you for an experience of a lifetime!"
