# Sandi Hester
*Artist*

Sandi Hester's art philosophy is straightforward yet profound: embrace the journey over the destination. She firmly believes in experimentation and learning from mistakes as the best way to grow artistically. The Tennessee-based artist began her creative trajectory at a young age, during long summer visits in the countryside of Franklin. Her grandmother, a pottery artist, was the first to instill a love for the physicality of art into Sandi's work; from subject and color to texture, or the feel of a brushstroke.

Sandi's artwork spans a variety of subjects - from mixed media landscapes to figures, still life, and animals. Her style is characterized by its looseness and suggestiveness, preferring to capture the spirit of a scene, as opposed to getting bogged down into extensive details. Her use of sketchbooks is essential to her growth as an artist, whether she's using them to build a daily habit, a safe place to experiment, a way to return to a scene from multiple perspectives, or as her creative playground.

Her philosophy on art extends into her teaching through her online art classes. Sandi believes in learning from mistakes and values the importance of experimentation in the artistic process. She often works with limited tools, exploring numerous variations of a single landscape, allowing her to connect with her subject intimately. Her practice emphasizes understanding and experiencing the landscape, embracing each stroke and color as part of a larger, personal journey.
