Jill Soukup, born in Buffalo, New York, and raised in Colorado, is an award-winning artist renowned for her dynamic oil paintings of Western ranch life, with a distinct focus on the elegance and power of the equestrian world. After earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Colorado State University, she initially pursued a career in graphic design and illustration before transitioning to full-time painting. Her work, celebrated for its expressive brushwork and unique compositions, has earned multiple awards, including an Oil Painters of America Award of Excellence and the People’s Choice Award at the Coors Western Art Exhibit & Sale.

Jill’s artistic philosophy centers on exploring contrasts—between light and dark, abstract and representational—to create visually engaging narratives. She believes that foundational skills like drawing, composition, and color theory are essential for artistic growth, a principle she emphasizes both in her own work and in her teaching. As a long-standing member of the Ranchlands community, she leads sought-after workshops at the Zapata Ranch, guiding artists of all levels in mastering these fundamentals while encouraging creativity and personal expression.
