# Jenny Aitken
*Oil and acrylic painter, art instructor*

Jenny Aitken is an oil and acrylic painter, instructor, and author based on the edge of the Peak District in the UK. She is known for her expressive, light-filled paintings, particularly her seascapes and depictions of coastal and rural landscapes, and for her skilled handling of color, light, and tone. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and she is currently represented by the Whitethorn Gallery in Ireland, the Harbour Gallery in Cornwall, and the Peter Barker Gallery in Rutland.

Having graduated with a degree in Art and Art History from Aberystwyth University in 1998, Jenny has built a celebrated career centered on painting and teaching. She was elected a full member of the Royal Society of Marine Artists (RSMA) in 2023, the same year she won the prestigious Baltic Exchange Award. She has strong family roots in Cornwall and the Channel Islands and a lifelong love of the sea, both of which are frequent touchstones in her work.

Jenny is a widely respected workshop tutor, travelling throughout the UK and abroad to teach painting to artists of all levels, and she has spent years leading workshops for organizations, including the Alderney Art Club and the Truro Arts School. She is also an online tutor, offering a series of more than 25 modules on painting in oils and acrylics, as well as shorter instructional painting videos on YouTube. She is a regular contributor to "The Artist Magazine."

Her approach to teaching is rooted in encouraging, informing, and creatively enthusing her students, helping painters of every level realise their potential while allowing their own individual style to come through.
