# David R. Smith
*Watercolor Fine Artist*

David R. Smith is an internationally recognized watercolor artist and instructor known for his fluid, expressive approach to the medium. He holds signature membership in both the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society, and is the recipient of the Skyledge Award, the highest honor presented by the Transparent Watercolor Society of America. His work has earned numerous Best of Show awards in both studio and plein-air competitions, and has been exhibited in galleries and museums throughout the United States and abroad.

David's paintings are driven by a love of light, contrast, and the natural beauty that happens when you work in harmony with watercolor rather than against it. His favorite subjects are found in nature, and he draws inspiration from travels abroad as well as explorations of state and national parks closer to home. In his teaching, David focuses on helping students embrace the fluid qualities of the medium and keeping paintings fresh, alive, and full of beautiful surprises.
