Carla Sonheim is a Seattle-based artist known for her innovative approach to drawing, painting, and mixed media. Her work often features whimsical animals and figures, reflecting a playful contemporary aesthetic. Carla transitioned from a career in graphic design to full-time art inspired by modern art, contemporary illustration, and children’s art.Carla's teaching philosophy blends seriousness with silliness, making art accessible and enjoyable. She started teaching in her sons' elementary school, which led to her popular book, "Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists: 52 Creative Exercises to Make Drawing Fun!", selling over 100,000 copies. Carla and her husband, Steve, run an online art school with over 20 artist-teachers, offering diverse classes that promote creativity and personal growth. Their projects include "365," a daily inspirational video series encouraging daily artistic practice.Beyond art, Carla and Steve support The Rainbow Network in Nicaragua, focusing on healthcare, housing, education, and economic development. The Rainbow Network provides materials and guidance so that families can build their own homes, start businesses, and send their kids to school.
